The 2013 Brilliant Uncirculated Gold Pound (FDC) is the five-year-old edition of the coin minted by the prestigious Royal Mint, the Mint of England that is no longer located in London, but in Llantrisant, Wales.
The “uncirculated” status is equivalent to the highest degree. In fact, it means that there are no signs of wear on the coin, usually visible in coins in circulation.
The obverse shows the fourth portrait of the current Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Ian Rank Broadley; while on the reverse we find Saint George killing the dragon, signed by Benedetto Pistrucci. Historical design present in almost all editions for 200 years.
In order to faithfully draw Her Majesty’s profile, it has been necessary over the years to commission more portraits. On the 2013 FDC gold pound we do not find the last portrait of the queen, by Jody Clark, present since the 2016 edition.
The gold weight of the FDC 2013 pound is 7,322381 grams, while its total weight is 7,98805 grams. The thickness is quantified in 1,52 mm, while the diameter is equal to 22,05 mm.
The characteristics of the Sovereign have never changed, since they follow the parameters set by the Great Recoinage law of 1816, shortly before the return of the minting of the gold pound.
The 2013 Brilliant Uncirculated Gold Pound can be an excellent gift for any occasion, such as baptism, communion or confirmation, but it can certainly be a very precious object in your collection.
The sovereign is a highly sought-after gold investment coin, both for its undoubted beauty and the value of the gold it is made of. In fact, investing in physical gold means relying on a safe haven asset that can hardly be devalued, but which certainly protects your capital from the effects of inflation.
